In September of 2018 I joined the Videoland Technology team at RTL Nederland on secondment, to work on the Videoland application for iOS, Android and tvOS. Working with the SCRUM methodology, I worked on the visual and interaction design of various user stories.

Videoland is the second biggest (after Netflix) media streaming service in the Netherlands, and the biggest originally Dutch streaming service, with currently over 500.000 subscriptions. As a daughtercompany of RTL Nederland, it is located in Hilversum, NH.

I worked closely with Jochem Lubbers on the design. The workflow is based around a design system with a library file which contains the main design elements that the app consists out of, built up incrementally - losley based on the atomic design philosophy. Using Sketch and Principle we designed and prototyped new interface elements and interactions and using Zeplin we handed them off to the developers.

We worked closely with the iOS, Android and tvOS developers to create a cohesive experience and keep the design consistent across devices.

Next to this I worked on motion design. When a lot of users approach the platform at the same time (say: when an episode of a very popular show is released) capacity issues can occur. To still be able to create an experience for the users that is not excessively negative, we decided to create an animation based on characters that were previously introduced throughout the app in illustrations. These animations are aimed to shorten the perceived waiting times for the user and create a positive connection to the brand. After storyboarding the different scenes I animated the different assets from Sketch in After Effects. After this I compiled production ready code using Airbnb's Lottie, which also enabled me to test the animations on different devices.
